STAFF REPORT LHR: A delegation from the National Institute of Management Lahore led by Director Staff Sijal Tauseef Khan has recently visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Science Lahore.


On the occasion, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Science Prof Dr Sarwar Khan briefed the delegation on the issues and challenges of the livestock and dairy development sector and the academic, research and extension service of the UVAS.


He said that livestock is contributing 12 per cent to the national GDP and 55 per cent to the agriculture GDP. He said that Pakistan is the second largest buffalo holding country and fourth largest milk producing country while it is 3rd in goat population in the world. He said that poultry is the most vibrant industry in Pakistan with an annual growth of 8-10 per cent.


Prof. Sarwar said that UVAS is producing competent skilled manpower to cater to the needs of livestock and related sectors of Pakistan. He also spoke about challenges facing the livestock sector and the role of the UVAS in addressing them.


Later, the delegation took a round of various departments, laboratories and clinics of the UVAS.
