Water testing lab starts in Sialkot

STAFF REPORT SKT: The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has recently made operative its well-equipped water testing laboratory in the Sialkot region.


The project was inaugurated by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid. On the occasion, he said that the government is evolving an effective strategy for the promotion research on water purification to control water-borne diseases on modern lines and science and technology across the country.


PCRWR Chairman Dr Aslam Tahir, Project Director Ch Muhammad Akram, MPAs Ch Tariq Akhtar Subhani, Ali Gill, Rana Liaqat Ali, Shazia Ilahi and Rana Zahid were also present on the occasion.


The PCSIR chairman said that the advanced research on water borne diseases could be significantly helpful in reducing the ratio of these diseases-related casualties.


The PCRWR has established the modern water testing laboratory with a cost of Rs14 million for providing advanced water testing facilities to people at local level.


On the occasion, the PCRWR chairman told the media that 25 to 30 percent deaths in Pakistan were caused by diarrhoea.


He also disclosed that the PCRWR would establish 19 more water testing laboratories in various areas across the country.


Ch Akram also announced that PCRWR would provide free of cost water testing facility to the flood-hit people for next six months.
