STAFF REPORT KHI: Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in collaboration with IEEE Communication Society, Karachi Chapter organized World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD). Prof BS Chowdhry, Chief Organizer of the event and Dean Faculty of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering, briefed about the importance of info-communication technologies (ICT) and the theme of this year “Women and Girls in ICT”.
Vice Chancellor Dr AQK Rajput informed that MUET has become HUB in ICT in this region imparting undergraduate and masters program in many areas of ICT. It is high time that we must pay particular attention to the special needs of women and girls, extending to them the benefits of ICTs so as to create a paradigm shift in opportunities offered now and in the future.
Kulsoom Chandio, Member Provincial Assembly Sindh Chief Guest on the occasion expressed that Women are the foundation of our societies. She congratulated MUET leadership for celebrating WTISD.
Prof Dr Aftab A Memon, Chairman Telecommunication Engineering Department, highlighted about the importance of telecommunication engineering in knowledge-based society. Prof Dr MA Uqaili, Pro VC apprised about the ICT sector that can pave the way by providing avenues of advancement to professional women.
On this occasion certificates and shields were also distributed to various girls students who received scholarship under US Fulbright and European Commissions Erasmus Mundus program.
