STAFF REPORT IBD: Caretaker Federal Minister for Water and Power Dr Mussadiq Malik has said that the caretaker government is taking urgent measures to overcome the power loadshedding across the country.
The caretaker prime minister, he said, has recently chaired a meeting of the ministers of finance, petroleum and natural resources, and water and power to address the issue of persistent power shortfall in the country.
Talking to media persons here, Dr Mussadiq said that 18,000 tons of oil and 150mmcft gas are required to overcome the electricity shortfall.
Replying to a question, he said that the shortage of funds is affecting electricity generation in the country. He said that Pakistan has the capability to produce 12000MW electricity and stressed the need for improving power tariffs and market structure for reducing loadshedding.
The minister also said that caretaker government had ensured uninterrupted electricity supply during polls.
