Cellular users in Pakistan reach 114.61m

STAFF REPORT IBD: Number of mobile phone subscribers reached 114.61 million by the end of January 2011, taking mobile phone teledensity in Pakistan to 66.5 per cent.
According to latest figures released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Mobilink led the market with 34.70 million subscribers followed by Telenor with 28.47 million customers.
Similarly, subscriber base grew to 22.02 million subscribers while Warid ended the month with 14.99 million customers. Zong grew its customer base to 14.42 million customers, while Ufone added most customers in January 2012, followed by Zong and Mobilink.
According to the PTA assessment, the number of subscribers would further expand in coming months with the introduction of upcoming 3G/4G technologies in the country scheduled by the end of this month.
