STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) Chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam Tahir has been conferred the Presidential Medal for Technology for achieving excellence in the field of science and technology for the year 2009 in recognition of his achievements in the field of chemistry.
On behalf of the President, the award was given by Mir Changez Khan Jamali, Federal Minister for Science and Technology.
Dr Aslam has received Ph.D. in Chemistry from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan; MSc/PGD from the International Institute for Infrastructure Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering (IHE), Delft, Netherlands.
His areas of interest include water quality monitoring; water and wastewater treatment, water pollution, environment, and water management. He has developed innovative low cost water quality monitoring kits and water treatment technologies.
Dr Aslam was awarded Quaid-i-Azam Gold Medal by Tehreek-e-Istehqam-e-Pakistan Council and gold medal by Zakariyan Chemist Organisation (ZACHO) in recognition of services for promoting awareness and provision of safe drinking water.
He has also initiated the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme, which generates the first detailed water quality profile of Pakistan. He has more than 21 publications/reports and has presented research based water quality presentations at national and international forums.
