STAFF REPORT KHI: The ecosystem is extremely important for the Pakistani ports, migratory birds, coastal areas, biodiversity, quality of sea life and the national economy. The stakeholders need to come with a pack of suggestions for the protection of these sites.

Speakers expressed thee views at the “4th International Conference/Workshop on Plant Ecology and Dendrochronology” organized by the Laboratory of Plant Ecology and Dendrochronology of Botany Department, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Campus, Karachi.

Experts from China, Thailand, Nepal, Iran as well as from national universities like GC University Lahore, Bahauddin Zakarya University Multan, University of Swat, Balochistan University Quetta, University of Karachi, National History Muesum Islamabad participated and presented their research papers.

Sikandar Sherwani, faculty member FUUAST-Microbiology acted as a moderator throughout the conference and workshop session. In addition a large number of research students of various universities and lecturers were also took part in the workshop session.

During the workshop, the experts and participants were also taken to wild area of Port Bin Qasim to quantitatively sample, collect and gathered the original field data. They also visited a waste incineration plant where Geolink Director Dr. Mubeen Ahmed Aziz described the process of incineration and explained why it is necessary for clean environment.

During this trip, they also learnt the techniques of Phyto and Zooplankton sampling.
