STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Monday awarded Dr. Z A Hashmi Gold Medal to Dr. Shahina Fayyaz in recognition of her outstanding research activities.

The medal is awarded each year on competitive basis to Principal Investigators of PSF supported research projects on the basis of results achieved and published during the last ten years.

“Z.A. Hashmi Gold Medal has been instituted in the memory of PSF Founding Chairman (late) Dr. Z.A. Hashmi to acknowledge his efforts and services for the development of Science and Technology in the country,” said PSF spokesperson Rehana Batool said while talking to this scribe.

She said that awards and prizes are granted by PSF to individuals engaged in developing processes, products, inventions, innovations in order to provide incentive for valuable scientific research.

Categories for awards include, awards for inventions/innovations, awards for commendable achievements in PSF research projects and Z.A. Hashmi Gold Medal, she said.

This activity has encouraged scientific community to conduct quality research, perform well and produce fruitful outcome, she said.

Rehana Batool said inventions and innovations are the instruments by which intellectual concepts are translated to new technologies and are moved towards commercialisation for the benefit of a national economy.
