STAFF REPORT LHR: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) has received the grant of Rs 400 million given by international donors for as many as 43 research related projects.

“Out of the 43 projects, 26 are international and 16 national which would be worked upon within the stipulated time,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Mehmood Pasha while informing about the received grant.

The UVAS has succeeded in securing cooperation from four universities including Penensalvania State University, Michigan, Jackson State Universities and University of Connecticut of USA under US Ministry of Science and Technology winning Rs 200 million for four projects.

Similarly, UVAS researchers are working on five projects with the research grant donated by Punjab Agriculture Research Board with estimated cost of Rs 80 million, the VC said.

The annual budget of the UVAS in fiscal year 2012-13 was Rs 470 million excluding Rs 180 million earnings of the university.”It is a sign of big acknowledgement of the performance of the UVAS by the international donors in the field of livestock and dairy development,” the VC maintained

It is to be mentioned here that most recently Dr Imran Rashid, an Assistant Professor at UVAS, had also got Rs 10.925 million in grant from “Grand Challenges Canada” for his research project.
