STAFF REPORT IBD: As many as ten villages in the Sahiwal district of Punjab have been electrified through off-grid solar power, said a statement. Coca-Cola Pakistan in collaboration with the Buksh Foundation is running the solar energy project, which has already impacted 25,000 people through its efforts to help those living at the bottom of the pyramid.

According to an official of Buksh Foundation, the project has enabled the villagers to work after dark, generate sustainable income and facilitate their childrens education.

It has also empowered 10 female villagers to become entrepreneurs in the process as they charge and rent out lanterns at Rs4 per day, the statement added.

“In a country where there is lack of female empowerment, a simple thing such as providing families with solar lanterns can empower communities and enhance their ownership in successful projects,” said Fahad Qadir, Coca-Cola Pakistans Public Affairs And Communication Director.
