STAFF REPORT IBD: Many Pakistani areas have a good potential to be declared as biosphere reserves and there is an urgent need to speed up the process of getting declared more sites as biosphere reserves to set a scientific base for improvement of relationship between people and their environment globally as well as biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and equitable use of natural resources for human well being.


Ministry of Science and Technology Federal Secretary Kamran Ali Qureshi expressed these views while presiding over the second meeting of National Man And Biosphere (MAB) Committee as its chairman at Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF).


The meeting was arranged by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Pakistan Science Foundation, Pakistan Museum of Natural History and UNESCO.


The Ministry of Science and Technology and UNESCO Pakistan have revived the ambitious project-UNESCOs MAB Programme in Pakistan recently after a long dormancy. The MAB is an international programme of UNESCO to set a scientific base for improvement of relationships between people and their environment globally.
