STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan and USA have agreed to enhance the scope of agricultural scientific research in order to extract maximum benefit from modern agricultural technology.


The cooperation was made between Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan and Clay Hamilton Agricultural Counselor at the US Embassy in Islamabad.


During the meeting, the minister said, “Rapid climate change was greatly affecting the agricultural system in Pakistan and there was a need to further increase collaborative research.”


He appreciated the work of US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Pakistan to improve the agriculture infrastructure by launching various programmes.


Hamilton assured to look into the matter. Hamilton also told the minister the USDA was sponsoring a programme of sending wheat scientists from Pakistan to USA for further training.


USDA was planning a Conference on Bio Technology later this year and in this regard sought Ministry of National Food Securitys participation and support. Bosan assured of his ministrys full collaboration on the matter.


Both persons explored the possibilities for jointly launching different programmes particularly with the purpose to up the income of the farmers.
