Hybrid car customised for Pakistani roads

STAFF REPORT IBD: Pakistan is going witness Toyota Prius, the first hybrid car in near future, which would lay the foundation of a revolution towards environment-friendly vehicles system.

This version of the Prius has been customized by Indus Motor Company (IMC) in order to deal with, well, lets just say some challenging road conditions.

IMC knows what its doing, and has modified Toyota and Daihatsu vehicles for the Pakistani market for over 20 years. The Prius brings with it the iconic shape and Parvez Ghias, CEO of IMC, told this scribe that the cars arrival, “is indeed a great milestone, not only in the history of IMC, but also of the entire nation.”

IMC is beefing up the ground clearance of the imported Priuses and adds a “robust suspension system. While on the other hand, the US Department of State warns travelers to beware of crowded roads, aggressive and poorly trained drivers and bad roads that could include potholes and sharp drop-offs.

However, experts are of the view that the hybrid cars introduction in Pakistan would go a long way in not only controlling the negative impacts of climate change but also drastically reduce the countrys huge annual import bill of oil import.
