MONITORING REPORT ISB: The Cool Clay team from the University of Sharjah, UAE, has won the first place in the Siemens Student Award competition. A panel of expert judges chose the winners from among four finalist teams selected for their efforts to tackle critical real-world challenges with innovative and applicable solutions.


The winners were announced during an awards ceremony recently held in Abu Dhabi.


The winning team was praised for its ingenuity in tackling the Self-Sustained Sensors System challenge, designing an economical and environmentally-friendly cooling system that requires no input energy due to its use of evaporative cooling.


“All of this years finalists demonstrated impressive creativity with their submissions. We would like to congratulate each of the teams for their efforts to produce solutions that tackle some of the most critical issues facing the Middle East,” said Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens Middle East and UAE.


Out of the four finalists, the frontrunner received a cash prize of USD 25,000, followed by USD 10,000 for each of the three runners-up and USD1,500 for the winner of the Peoples Choice Award.
