STAFF REPORT ISB: Higher education is the only sustainable engine for the economic growth of Pakistan and there is dire need to highlight the role of intellectuals in promoting education and building culture of research and development in collaboration with industry.
These remarks were expressed during a two-day conference on “Economic Development through Higher Education” recently held at HEC Secretariat. The workshop was organized by the UET, Peshawar, in collaboration with the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) and Campus UK.
Main objective of the conference was to evolve a sustainable higher education model that addresses issues and deformities in current system and policies, and help improve the Human Development Index for skilled and highly qualified workforce, harness their potential and channel it in the right direction to leverage the national growth.
VC UET Peshawar Engr. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said that higher education is the only sustainable engine for the economic growth of a country.
He said that UK universities are already partners of Pakistans higher education institutions but theres a need to build joint partnerships for promotion of research.
Prof. Phil Thomas, a world renowned educationist, highlighted the role of intellectuals in promoting education and building culture of research and development.
“A developing nation needs to invest on its intellectuals and scholars more aggressively. For that purpose, the university management and vice chancellors work together to produce quality research which has an impact on countrys development.”
