Green Revolution founder remembered


STAFF REPORT ISB: Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) and USDA have jointly celebrated the 100th birthday of Green Revolution Father and Nobel Peace Prize holder Dr. Norman E. Borlaug.

During the event various important activities were conducted at the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) which include plantation by daughter of Dr. Borlaug Jeanie Borlaug; Declaration of “Borlaug Avenue”, foreign scientists delegation from USA visit of NARC wheat farm field area and exhibition; and ceremony to unveil the plaque to earmark the establishment of “Borlaug Institute of South Asia” in Pakistan.

Rich tributes were paid to the renowned scientists at a conference organized in this regard.

Dr. Norman Borlaugs approach to increasing global food production resulted in the saving of about one billion people worldwide from famine and starvation.
