STAFF REPORT ISB: The government of Pakistan is keen to host the OIC Summit on Science and Technology Innovation along with the 15th General Assembly Meeting of Comstech in first quarter of 2015.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid said in a meeting with OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Abdullah Madani who has recently called on him in Islamabad.

In order to promote cooperation in the field of Science and technology in the Muslim Ummah, the minister said that as chairman Standing Committee on SandT has been playing a constructive role in making Comstech an effective and vibrant body for promoting Science and Technology among the member states.

He said that two of the leading universities in Pakistan – NUST and Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) – are under the administrative supervision of the ministry.

“The ministry has its organisation like Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR), Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Pakistan Council for Renewable Energies Technologies (PCRET) and National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) are researching in the field of industrial, energies and water sectors of the country,” he added. The minister said that the government is giving top priority to SandT sectors and RandD in nanotechnology, fuel cell technology, bio technologies etc are in progress.
