STAFF REPORT LHR: Two Pakistani and a German university have launched BEd in Technical Education, which is a pre-service study programme to train a new generation of teachers imparting technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The one-year postgraduate study programme is a venture of the University of Punjab, the Virtual University (VU) of Pakistan and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran launched the new study programme at the university.

VU Rector Prof Dr Naveed Malik, NAVTTC Director General Muhammad Yahya, TVET Reform Support Programme Coordinator Hans Bruns, German Embassy Economic Cooperation and Development First Secretary Almut Knop, the Institute of Education and Research Director Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter attended the ceremony.

On the occasion, Yahya highlighted the role of NAVTTC in setting national priorities and standards for the skill training in Pakistan. He said that the NAVTTC was implementing a comprehensive reform in the TVET sector through National Skills Strategy (NSS). This strategy was being implemented with the generous support of the EU, Dutch, Norwagian and German governments. He further said that implementation of reform would create a paradigm shift in increasing the demand of skill training.
