STAFF REPORT LHR: Saudi business groups are taking more interest in investment in various sectors of in Punjab particularly energy.

Most recently, President and CEO of a Saudi group associated with energy sector, Anwar Aleitani, called on Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here and discussed matters regarding investment in energy and other sectors.

The Saudi investment group expressed interest in investment in coal and solar based power generation projects in Punjab. During the meeting, the CM said that energy crisis being faced by Pakistan is leaving a negative impact on economy as well as education, health, agriculture, industrial and other social sectors. He said that industrial and trade activities have also been affected by shortage of electricity.

President Saudi Investment Group Anwar Aleitani said that his group wants to invest in energy sector in Punjab as it is impressed with the determination and spirit of the Punjab government.

He said that government is taking effective measures for overcoming energy shortage as soon as possible and work is being carried out expeditiously on power generation projects. He said that there are deep-rooted brotherly and friendly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The CM welcomed the interest shown by Saudi group in investment in power sector and said that the provincial government is providing facilities to foreign investors on priority basis. He said that work is being carried out speedily on solar power project in the province while sites have also been identified for establishing small solar projects.
