Govt urged to include disaster risk reduction in policy


STAFF REPORT KHI: Speakers at a government officials training on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change have urged the sitting government to include DRR and CC in its policy to fight with the disasters effectively.

The three-day training was organized by Laar Humanitarian Development Programme (LHDP) in collaboration with Oxfam Novib and Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) at a local hotel here in Karachi.

District-level government officials from 12 departments form Badin, Karachi and Hyderabad participated in the training programme, which was conducted by trainers from National Institute of Disaster Management and ADPC.

The government departments included Education, Agriculture, Livestock, Revenue, Planning and Development, EPA, PDMA, Information, Forest, Wildlife, Social Welfare and Fisheries.

“I have seen committed officials in the training and wanted them to take over the programme towards implementation,” said Arie, representative of Oxfam.
