STAFF REPORT ISB: Scientists and researchers from COMSATS member states have stressed the need to create knowledge-networks and work out cost-effective solutions in order to address the problems of the developing world.

They also resolved to direct the efforts of COMSATS International Thematic Research Group towards benefiting the masses in the developing countries using modern ICT. These scientists and researchers have recently gathered during the groups second meeting in Islamabad to collaborate for a joint research project, titled “e-Solutions for Community using Low-Cost Connectivity”.

In his inaugural address, COMSATS Executive Director Dr Imtinan E. Qureshi considered the theme of the project extremely important for the developing countries, having strong implications for their socio-economic development. He urged the participants to create knowledge-networks and commit themselves for working out cost-effective solutions in order to address the problems of the developing world, which he believed was the true spirit of South-South cooperation.

FIST Dean Prof Sajjad Mohsin shared the progress made by the group since its conception in 2011. He particularly noted the progress made in terms of the project components related to setting up Wi-Fi connectivity and developing e-Health solutions.
