STAFF REPORT ISB: Pakistan would receive 325 MMCFD of LNG on April 1, 2015 which would be a major breakthrough in the field of energy sector.


Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was informed the quantity of LNG will gradually reach 400 MMCFD by the end of the year. The LNG will be used in power sector to replace expensive fuel.


Secretary Finance, Dr. Waqar Masood gave an update on the implementation status of various initiatives, saying that a number of them had already been implemented and progress of various degrees on others had been achieved.


The minister was informed that in pursuance of his directives, the Sales Tax refund cheques amounting Rs 10.187 Billion were issued to textile sector on Sept. 30, 2014 thus disposing all the verified claims as filed by June 30, 2014.


Directives had also been issued to the field offices to ensure that all refund claims were disposed within three months of filing.


Under the Prime Ministers ICT scholarship programme, 530 scholarships were offered. Out of these, 480 had been availed by rural students in 21 universities across Pakistan. Target of 500 will be achieved during the spring semester, the minister was apprised. The minister also issued instructions for a meeting to review the interim report prepared by the Tax Reforms Commission.
