Staff Report LHR: The conventional stamp paper is vulnerable to forging and can be reproduced for misuse and malpractices. In order to address this issue, Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif has issued instructions for issuance of electronic stamp paper in Lahore District. It will be expanded to various parts of Punjab afterword. This was disclosed by senior member of Board of Revenue, Nadeem Ashraf in a high level meeting.


The e-stamping online system is developed by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).


Nadeem Ashraf said, “The main objective for this e-stamping system is to prevent paper and process related fraudulent practices, leakage of government revenues, and store information in electronic form and build a central database to make ease of the verification process.” He further said that the procurer of stamp paper will be informed through SMS. Nadeem Ashraf also hinted the awareness seminars on importance of e-stamp paper in Lahore and other cities soon.


The participants of the meeting included Additional Secretary Information, Secretary Cooperative, Member Tax, representatives of IT and officers of Finance and Excise Departments.


The incorporation of technology in this segment will help to curb corruption, irregularities due to forging mafia that are usual in recent scenario and transparency, efficiency and accountability through the use of ICT interventions and e-Governance will be manifested.
