NAYS drives Biosafety Training Workshop

STAFF REPORT FAISLABAD: National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) being a torchbearer in SandT popularization in Pakistan, arranged one day workshop on “Biosafety for young scientists.” The co-organizers of the event were Molecular Care Department of Biochemistry and University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). The principal sponsor of the workshop was American Association for Advancement of Sciences (AAAS).

President NAYS, Aftab Ahmad in his inaugural speech briefed about the overall scenario of SandT in Pakistan and also detailed the contributions of NAYS in SandT promotion through its various programmes. Prof Amir Jamil was also present on the occasion, who appreciated the endeavors of NAYS to nurture scientific culture in Pakistan. He gave introduction of Molecular Care and apprised that it was the ongoing project of UAF in order to provide quality testing services in the city. The workshop was divided into two technical sessions. In first session, lectures on Biological Waste Management and Chemical Biosafety were given by Aftab Ahmad and Asif Raheem Qaisarani (University of the Punjab) respectively. Additionally, biosafety aspects of nanotechnology and biotechnology research were also emanated by Aftab Ahmad. In the second technical session, hands on training pertaining to biosafety cabinets and personal protective equipment was given by Aftab Ahmad, Sheikh Saqib Rafique, and Asif Raheem.
