STAFF REPORT KHI: The lack of telecommunication related data availability to security agencies many times blocks the path to efficiently maneuver and execute the plan against suspects and as a result many times they get safe exit and ample time to flee. To counter this situation, Sindh Police Department felt the need to approach Telecommunication service providers and a formal agreement was signed to give access of call data record and location of subscribers to police department through global system for mobile communication (GSM) and geo-fencing facility.
An agreement signing event was held which was presided by Sindh IG Police,Ghulam Hyder Jamali. Top officials of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Zong and Warid were present on the occasion. The points discussed in the meeting were to find out ways to effectively access the data in shortest possible time in order to facilitate the police department in tracking the suspect and planning accordingly.
“Geo-fencing in a security strategy model, provides security to wireless local area networks and can aid the police department considerably,” Representative of a top telco said.
