STAFF REPORT KHI: The energy sector of Pakistan needs sincere efforts from public and private sector in order to free country from the shortfall menace. Alternate energy can be a great antidote to quash this challenge. Karachi Nuclear Power Plants (Kanupp) K2 is being constructed which will add about 1100MW to the national grid. The inauguration ceremony of K2 power plant took place recently. Prime Minster of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif unveiled the inauguration plaque this week.


Prime Minster while addressing on the occasion said government was upright in eliminating energy crisis through serious efforts and these twin power plants will add 2200MW collectively that will help to heal Pakistan`s stale energy situation. “Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) entails a rich history of immaculate national level projects and this project is one of the shining examples of the organization; the safety of existing and under construction nuclear power plants is highly laudable”, he added.


Muhammad Nawaz Sharif also hailed the neighboring country China for its support in setting up of these power plants and helping Pakistan overcome energy crisis. He also hinted that with the cooperation of a Chinese company two more nuclear power plants – Chashma-III and IV – would start producing 630MW electricity next year.
