STAFF REPORT PEW: The workshop based on theme Biosafety/Bioterrorism and Risk Assessment in Agriculture Research was organized by National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) in collaboration with Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) and University of Agriculture, Peshawar (UAP). The main purpose of the workshop was to sensitize students about biosafety ethics and promote a safer work environment in the laboratories and performing different procedures. American Association for Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) was the main sponsor of the event.


The event was divided into two technical sessions. Dr Aftab Ahmad President NAYS gave a plenary lecture on basics of biosafety. He elaborated all the biosafety levels and working condition in these levels. Dr Aftab also glanced over the numerous activities NAYS for science popularization in the country and shared its different programmes with the participants.


Dr Zahoor Ahmad Swati, Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Peshawar exclusively greeted the organizers for reaching out the university for this informative session. He said, “The SandT is the key to success and joint efforts from all spheres are required to cash maximum benefit and extend its canvas to underprivileged and remote areas as well. The youth must get involved in science popularization activities for creation of a healthier competitive knowledge based ecosystem in the country”.


Participants from PASTIC also underscored importance of the event and its productive impacts on the student as well as faculty members.
