STAFF REPORT ISB: National Academy Young Scientists (NAYS) began a workshop arrangement in a joint effort with The American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS), USA to instruct and train youthful analysts and researchers about biosafety. The workshop series ended with its last event held at Karachi.Ten workshops were led in distinctive organizations/colleges across the country by NAYS for the sake of science popularization and promoting biosafety ethics.
Aftab Ahmed, President NAYS said while commenting on the series of biosafety workshops, “NAYS-Pakistan and AAAS donated sharp containers, medical aid boxes, safety goggles, eye wash bottles and other related stuff to begin biosafety society in foundations/colleges in Pakistan. NAYS-Pakistan firmly believes that coordinated and integrated effort and information sharing can take Pakistan parallel to worldwide benchmarks. It is sure that together we can help to bring issues to light that consider the domestic need in Pakistan”.
The cities in which various activities were organized include Multan, Lahore, Faisalabad, Kohat, Pattoki, Peshawar, Haripur, Jamshoro and Karachi from May to September, 2015. Presentations were conveyed with respect to essentials of biosafety, biological waste management, standard microbiological practices, chemical safety, usage of biosafety cabinets and personal protection. Besides, hands-on trainings were led in the workshops majority.
