STAFF REPORT ISB: The environmental commission which was constituted to ensure the implementation of climate change policy and monitor the federal and provincial governments activities in connection to environmental footprints has recently rolled out improvement of inter-agency coordination for better resilience against the climate change impacts.


The commission released a report in which the degradation of Margalla Hills National Park area was highlighted. Furthermore, the civic authorities like Capital Development Authority (CDA) are infested with non-technical persons and the need of inclusion of expert environmentalists in CDA was also underscored in the report.


Similarly, the media outlets are bound to run 10% of the air time on educating masses concerning to environmental protection which is not followed aptly till now.


The senior commission member said while commenting on the environmental impacts, “The role of media is highly critical in raising awareness of environmental issues and educating the general public on this humongous challenge because Pakistans vulnerability to the climate change impacts is highly alarming and communities can play effective role in adaptation and mitigation. Therefore, the mainstream media should focus on frequent basis the coverage of environmental subjects in order to create a sustainable society and environmental friendly space”.
