STAFF REPORT ISB: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has successfully got approved six of its projects from Central Development Working Party (CDWP). The project accumulative cost amounts to Rs 8 billion approximately.


According to the sources, a meeting of CDWP with Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning and Development was held recently in which the said projects were sanctioned. The HEC projects include setting up of a Technology Development Fund for the organization; establishment of state of the art university in Sibi, Baluchistan to improve literacy in that region; provision of various operational facilities for King Abdullah Campus, University of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), Muzaffarabad; development of new blocks in Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi; and improving the compensation of scholars under Cultural Exchange Programme.


It is relevant to mention here that HECs financial capacity in the past two years of incumbent government has significantly increased and the federal budget portion of 72 billion was allocated for HEC which is the glimpse of prioritizing higher education sector in Pakistan in order to create a knowledge based economy.
