STAFF REPORT ISB: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has formally launched the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in an attempt to pool researchers, scientists and also mitigate the gap between academia, industry, and the society in order to nurture a socio-economic viable research with greater impact.


Dr Shahid Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor AIOU inaugurated the ORIC and said while addressing on the occasion, “The purpose of establishment of this office is to maximize the potential of researches produced by Pakistanis. AIOU has always strived for creation of knowledge apart from its dissemination and provides researches an opportunity to publish their research in 7 journals of AIOU”.


“ORIC will be responsible for strengthening relationship with industry and associated varsities for information exchange, resource pooling, seek funding opportunities for commercialization of research, arranging conferences and seminars on variety of scientific subjects in order to trigger a positive change for a sustainable socio-economic development”, he added.


It is pertinent to mention that under ORIC, a seminar on ‘Remote Sensing and GIS’ was also conducted in which students, and faculty members from National University of Science and Technology, Pir Mehr Ali Shah – Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, Quaid e Azam University, and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics participated and get an ample of knowledge on the subject through presentations by Dr Mubhashir Ali, Head of Department Geoinformatics PMAS-AAUR, Dr Ali Tahir, faculty member NUST and Rozeena Naz, Research Scientist at National Agricultural Research Council.


In the concluding session, the certificates were also distributed amongst the participants.
