STAFF REPORT ISB: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) announced to allocate an amount of Rs 15 million to provide scholarships for meritorious and needy students from its annual budget. This was promulgated by Vice Chancellor AIOU, Dr Shahid Siddiqui during regional directors conference held at Abbottabad. According to the sources, the scholarships are intended for students belonging to earthquake and flood hit areas to give them ample space to continue their education in an appropriate manner. It was also revealed that nine different scholarships schemes of AIOU are in pipeline that categorically focuses on providing financial assistance to under privileged regions and the rural communities.The Regional Directors hailed the initiative by the Vice Chancellor and also urged to boost the human resource and financial capacity of regional offices so to achieve their enrollment targets effectively and running their operational activities at a persistent pace without halting.


AIOU is the foremost university of the country having countrywide recognition due to its distant education programmes. The universitys contributions to uplift the education sector of the country are inevitable and hard to refute and this scholarship offering is one glimpse of the realization of university on ongoing challenges of catastrophe hit people.
