STAFF REPORT LHR: Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL) has started biometric verification of EVO/Chargi devices at customers doorstep, official sources said.


According to the sources, the move has been started in collaboration with a courier service, TCS. Initially the facility is being offered in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Quetta, Sukkar and Haiderabad.


As per directives of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the biometric verification of EVO/Charji, Nitro, Vfone devices is mandatory to ensure transparency of the whole process.


A PTA official told that verification is being continued under National Action Plan. The verification drive is continuation of SIM verification campaign that cellular companies conducted last year.


PTCL had asked its customers to get their EVO, Nitro and Charji devices verified from PTCLs One Stop Shops, Ufone Service centres and franchises or from Ufone retailers in addition to doorstep verification.


According to the PTA, there are over 1.2 million EVO, Nitro and Charji customers in the country.


PTCL has already inked an agreement with TCS Express and Logistics for sale of PTCL products utilizing the large network of TCS retail outlets in Pakistan. Further information could be obtained from by dialing 0800 80800.
