STAFF REPORT KHI: Mishandling and improper disposal of chemicals in Pakistani industries is life-threatening for thousands of people. Industrial growth in Pakistan is negative which is due to the lack of science and technology. Civil societys silence over the environmental degradation in the country is really a matter of concern. Chemical security in the industries should be a key concern for the government, industrialists, chemical experts and other stakeholders as well.
Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi (UoK), expressed these views while speaking at the 3rd webinar on “National Training Course on Chemical Industry Standards” recently held in the video conferencing room of the L.E.J. National Science Information Center, UoK.
Prof. Iqbal said that webinar series was all about developing relationship between academia and industries in Pakistan.
He added that ICCBS-UoK was using the latest webinar technology which was interactive, less time consuming and hassle free solution. This technology relaxes the participants who have not to travel long distances, rather stay at their own location, and get benefit to attend the lectures, trainings, seminars by webinar, he added.
He said that the industrial sector owns great significance for economic growth of every country. The inappropriate use of toxic chemicals in the chemical industries causes a large number of silent deaths in Pakistan, he observed.
