President Mamnoon Hussain has recommended that to meet challenges of the new era the Muslim world should prioritize science and technology while addressing the inaugural session of summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on science and technology at Kazakhstan capital Astana.
Summit was attended by heads of state and government from around 22 Muslim states and 57 states delegates.
“Science and technology are innovating every day and Muslim world should also focus on improving agricultural production to develop agricultural technology sector and higher education to promote research in evolving science and technology. So that skilled healthy workforce can be generated”, said President. He added that for prosperity, development and safe future of new generation unity among the Muslim world are imperative.
“Muslim community have ignored education sector for the last some centuries,” said the president.
Addressing the summit,
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s President said that no progress can be made without peace. Muslim world needs unity and integrity and has to stand together against violence in Myanmar. He requested international community to cooperate in Myanmar matter. Science and technology summits should be held regularly.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan said that Islam is rapidly extending in the world but there are 2 Nobel Prize-winning personalities one is from Pakistan and the other from Egypt in Muslim world. He concluded that how can Muslim world compete with the developed world in science and technology will be explored in summit.
The OIC first science and technology summit is a one-day conference, to “identify priorities, goals, and targets for the advancement and promotion of science, technology, and innovation in the OIC Member States”, according to its official website.
In the summit heads of state and government met to design prospects about science and technology and prioritized goals over the next decade for the member countries to achieve.
