Byco given clean chit in oil spill near Mubarak village
Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and the Balochistan Environmental Protection Agency (BEPA) have confirmed that Byco Petroleum Pakistan Ltd. (BPPL) is not responsible for oil spill at the coastal area near Mubarak Village.
Mubarak Village is a fishing village in Kimari Town near Karachi, located along the shore of Arabian Sea. The village is a popular tourist destination, known as the gateway to the small, pristine Charna Island.
BEPA and PMSA had conducted their investigation to determine the source of the leakage on the shores of Mubarak Village. Their findings showed no evidence of leakage at Byco Petroleum Pakistan Ltd. (BPPL) facilities.
According to Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) 70 to 80 percent of the area surrounding the Mubarak Village has been cleaned after the oil slick and removed oil from the surface of the sea which will threaten the environment and marine life on the coastal belt.
Malicious disinformation spread that the oil spillage from Byco Petroleum Pakistan Ltd. (BPPL) near mubarak village that is disaster for the eco-friendly environment. Then the investigation committee conducted the inspection and declared that no oil found during the aerial inspection. For this case, Byco take strong and legal action against these for defamation.
On the other hand, Byco Petroleum Pakistan Ltd. (BPPL) tested a sample of the oil found at the site and found it to be bunker oil, which is not produced at Byco’s refinery, nor at any other refinery in Pakistan. Bunker oil is used by ships as fuel and it is most likely that in this case the bunker oil was derelict by a ship being taken to Gadani for shipbreaking.
Byco’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) and undersea pipeline are fully in harmony with applicable national and international terms and safety standards, and there are strict regular safety inspection procedures in place at all Byco Petroleum Pakistan Ltd. (BPPL) facilities.
With the help of a tested sample Byco confirms there has been no loss of suppression of any product from its facilities. There’s a slur against them.
Overall, maritime pollution caused by oil spills is a crucial point that needs to pay imperative attention and avert the marine environment threatens ahead.
