The Science of Science Communication Workshop

A workshop on ‘Popularizing Science through Science Communication’ held at University of Punjab on 3rd April in collaboration with Technology Times.Pk and Khwarizmi Science Society regard to 8th Invention to Innovation Punjab Summit, 2019.

The honorable speakers who spoke at the event are Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, Assistant Professor Forman Christian College University Lahore , Sayyed Paras Ali from Science Media, CEO Technology Times,

Mohsina Asif , Assistant Managing Director, Spectra Magazine,University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore  and Dr. Sabieh Anwar, General Secretary, Khwarizmi Science Society who chaired the event as guest of honor.

Dr. Sabieh Anwar emphasized on the summit saying that government should allocate certain percentage of air time for scientific knowledge through ministry of information and broadcast. Academia should start science communication courses to impart knowledge. On the other hand the media industry should include scientific knowledge programs in their schedule.

Sayyed Paras Ali put emphasis on ‘Science of Science Communication’. He talks about the role of science and technology in the social development. For the development of science communication in the society we must to be concentrated within the framework of the fundamental social, cultural, and economic rights in a peaceful and cooperative world.

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, FCCU professor highlights the ‘Basics of Communicating Science for public’. He discussed what kind of people are scientist. Put light on public perception about scientists the stereotypical views. He further elaborated that 30% scientists have engaged in public engagement within schools while 73% scientists have never had any training in public engagement.

Mohsina Asif shed light on ‘Science Communication and Journalism’. She emphasized the need to bridge the gap between scientists and public. Moreover, she negotiates why we need science communication?

We all need to overcoming stigma against science, have to share the experiences and updates about scientific progress to a lay man. Stimulates the next generation of scientists through academia & industry, she further added.
