Prof Zabta K.Shinwari elected as COMEST co-chairperson

The World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology is a prestigious advisory body, seeing its consideration Pakistan has been elected as Co-Chair for two years in a regular meeting of UNESCO COMEST.

On behalf of Pakistan the renowned educationist Professor Zabta Khan Shinwari is working as a co chairperson of COMEST because of his prominent ethical principles of decision-making with criteria that extend beyond purely economic considerations.

Considering this, Prof Zabta had an elongated career; in 2015 he was awarded with Laureate of the UNESCO Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science. Also a recipient of Pakistan Civil Awards Sitara-e-Imtiaz in the year 2018 and Tamghae-Imtiaz in 2012.

Prof Zabta an eminent personality titled as founder and Vice-Chancellor of Qarshi University, Lahore. Also a member of Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) and a President of National Council for Tibb and Former Vice-Chancellor of  Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) and University of Science and Technology, Bannu.

The World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology COMEST works in several areas including environmental ethics, with reference inter alia to climate change, biodiversity, water and disaster prevention.

Moreover, the ethics of nanotechnologies along with related new and emerging issues in converging technologies; ethical issues relating to the technologies of the information society; science ethics; and gender issues in ethics of science and technology.
