The recently appointed Secretary IT & T, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui chaired a meeting to review efforts for enhancing Pakistan’s IT industry exports. The meeting which was convened upon the directive of Minister for Information Technology, was attended by senior most Ministry of IT Officials and Pakistan Software Export Board.

Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) Managing Director, Ali Hasani, in his briefing stated that Pakistan’s IT Industry has achieved positive year on year growth over the past decade and remittances of Pakistan’s IT Industry have surged a stellar 8.9% last year.

Over 5000 Pakistan based IT companies are providing IT products and services to entities in 100 countries. Strong inventive are being provided to the IT industry and there are several projects intended to facilitate and assist IT Industry in its growth trajectory and to ensure continued upward momentum in local and export earnings. MD PSEB stated that every effort is being made to facilitate IT Industry and accordingly bandwidth tariff has been reduced by 35% for IT companies.

According to the Secretary IT Pakistan was ranked 3rd most popular country for freelancing in the world and that Pakistani IT companies are providing products and services to world’s largest companies with IT Industry revenues nearly US$4.1 billion. He said that efforts need to be made to enhance perception of Pakistan’s IT Industry in the global arena and to ensure sustainable growth of Pakistan’s IT industry in long term.

Replying the above statement, Muhammad Burhan a digital expert stated: “With right government policies and support for IT industry, this industry alone has potential to give a boom to economy and positive image of country globally!!”

An IT expert Zafar M. from Manchester, United Kingdom said that there is a a lot of shortage of resources in the field of Python, RPA automation, Machine Learning, Data Sciences. He further added that the more talent comes through the better the chance to get outsourcing contracts from western countries and USA.

IT experts are of the view that yet IT industry is in limbo due to lack of mojor payment gateways in Pakistan. They suggested that Pakistan need more to stress on more digital marketing, a national cloud and national standards for developers and development agencies.
