Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL) organized a practical training session on DNA related crime investigation for police forces at the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences, University of Karachi.
The objective is training was to provide advanced technical training on DNA related crime investigation.
Training session was conducted by SFDL Project Director Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, and SFDL Technical Manager Dr. Nouman Rasool, which is attended About 31 police officials.
Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan talked to participants that forensic science was recognized as the essential part of the tool-kit for law enforcement agency and its personnel when it came to solving crimes.
Most of the crime investigations could not be effectively completed without a forensic component in now days. He informed the participants that Now there is no need to send the samples for DNA examination out of Sindh. The laboratory was set up to facilitate police and prosecution for providing prompt and transparent justice to common people.
He also mentioned that it was the first forensic laboratory in Sindh to facilitate law enforcement agencies in the detection, identification and examination of human DNA and biological fluids from the crime scene.
He also appreciated the role of Sindh Health Department and Supreme Court of Pakistan in constructing of this modern research laboratory.
Dr Nouman Rasool did comprehensive talk on identification, lifting, packaging and transport of biological evidence. He told about the threats to biological evidence which might harm the DNA reports. He demanded from the participants to build professional ability for the handling of evidence.
He also responded to the questions asked by participants regarding the difficulties which they face during field investigation in training.
During the training participants also got engaged in a crime scene and collected biological evidence used for investigations.
Participants expressed their satisfaction for being provided advanced training which is essential for their capacity building and fulfillment of their professional obligations. They mentioned establishment of the laboratory was an additional benefit for them.
According to organizers, the SFDL laboratory successfully builds at the Jamil-ur-Rahman Center for Genome Research, works as a part of Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi.
