HEC teams along with World Bank visiting Punjab University

Senior Science & Technology Specialist from World Bank Mr Graham Mark Harrison along with the HEC team visited Punjab University for funding research projects.

HEC teams along with World Bank visiting Punjab UniversityMain purpose of the HEC visit was to start collaboration and providing research based solutions for national problems faced by the people of Pakistan.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan In collaboration with the World Bank has begun Grand Challenge Fund (GCF) to fund research projects.

The Grand Challenge Fund (GCF) is a key element of the Higher Education Development in Pakistan Project supported by the World Bank and implemented under the supervision of HEC.  The GCF is anticipated to promote research excellence in strategic sectors of the economy, and will provide funds to selected institutions based upon a competitive, peer reviewed evaluation of proposals. 

The delegation visited Punjab University to see the available research facilities for researchers in the institution. GCF Fund Chair Athar Usama and other officials also accompany with Mr Graham Mark during visited Punjab University.

The delegation called on Vice-Chancellor Punjab University Prof Niaz Ahmad at his office. The VC briefed the delegation about the 63 research projects applied in the current call of GCF.

Later, the delegates met the faculty members of Punjab University at Al Raazi Hall and a question answer session was held to address various issues related to the project.

 Mr Harrison and Athar Usama visited various laboratories on campus after the interactive session,. Mr. Harrison also appreciated the research work and available facilities at PU and said that World Bank would fund those research project aimed at solving local issues.
