Senate approved Bill related to University of Islamabad

The Senate approved a bill to open University of Islamabad which was moved by the Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood.

Senate approved Bill related to University of Islamabad According to the bill, Private sector University of Islamabad will be established in Bahria Golf City on the Murree Expressway which brings enormous social benefits for the residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and neighboring areas.

The university is a project of the Foundation for the Advancement of Innovation, Research and Education (FAIRE), a non-profit registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.

The university will offer education and scholarships and make provisions for research and the application, advancement and dissemination of knowledge in a manner determined in accordance with guidelines of professional accreditation councils.

The chancellor of the university will be nominated by the board of directors of FAIRE for a renewable period of five years through a resolution passed with a two-third majority. However the tenure of office of the chancellor can be reduced with a joint resolution of the foundation directors depending on reasons such as availability, health, resignation and so on.

The chancellor may remove any person from the membership of the board of governors on the grounds on the advice of a review panel that the person has become of unsound mind or become incapacitated to function as a board member, or has been convicted by a court of law for an offence involving moral turpitude or absented himself from two consecutive meetings without just cause or been guilty of misconduct, including use of position for personal advantage of any kind, or gross inefficiency in performance.

The university will offering programmes in management sciences, computer science, international relations and mathematics.
