An MoU, Memorandum of Understanding, is approved for local development of electromedical devices. The MoU was recently signed between Fawad Chaudhry Ministry of Science and Technology and and Dr. Zafar Mirza Ministry of Health and others.

A ceremony was held at National Command and Operation Center (NCC), Islamabad and it was attended by Fawad Chaudhry the Minister for Science and Technology, Prime Minister’s Special Assistant (SAPM) on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza and Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council and Chief Executive Officer Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).

The new initiative will induce a mechanism that would spark off innovation and local engineering solution in this field and will improve the healthcare facilities of Pakistan.

Also, this initiative is solely expected to open the way forward for the innovators of the country to invest in this sector.


Recently, efforts had been made to regulate electromedical devices by the DRAP and a total of 15 ventilators are in various phases of trials, whereas, machine trials of 4 ventilators by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) will be completed by the end of the present week.

Fawad Chaudhry Hussain said that Pakistan is in a good position to export its personal protective equipment (PPE), speaking on the occasion he said with confidence.

Keeping in mind that currently exports orders worth over 10 million dollars are still pending, the science minister said that his ministry will also regulate cooperation with local surgical goods manufacturing companies.

At the same time, Dr Zafar Mirza said the ministry has improved the healthcare system in Pakistan and soon Pakistan will be locally manufacturing its own ventilators.
