The Federal HEC decides to formulate a new policy for research and PhD, under which students will now be able to get admission directly in PhD program only after the BS program.
The Federal Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has decided to formulate a new policy for research and PhD in the country, under which students will now be able to get admission directly in the PhD only after the BS program. If the HEC does not formulate or revise such a policy, there will be a full scale protest.
The HEC has included the issue in the agenda of the commission’s meeting which will held today.
Dr. Sohail Yousuf, President Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), said that the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is going beyond the bounds of taking steps to completely destroy the research culture in the country.
This policy of the Chairman HEC and its management is a joke for the researchers and the academy or the field. The HEC makes daily jokes and logic-free policies. After all, many students go for jobs after M.Phil. If this policy is made, how will anyone get a job after BS unless he does a PhD.
He further said that many students would not prefer PhD after BS as not every student in Pakistan has the capacity to do PhD which would also reduce the rate of PhD admissions and This will have a negative impact on research.
He further said that the standard of BS program degree in Pakistani universities is not in line with the standard of foreign universities but after M.Phil many Pakistani students go abroad for PhD. If this policy is made, then BS students will not be able to go abroad directly for PhD and students will not be able to be in the best universities in the world.
