Health awareness campaign for COVID-19 must be promoted as according to scientific research alarms the public that awarness campaigns are crucial for expanding the knowledge regarding COVID-19.

It is also noticed with the course of awareness and knowledge related to COVID-19 symptoms and preventive measures have increased among the nation.

A pre-post study in the general population in Rawalpindi Pakistan” has been jointly conducted by Punjab University Institute of Social and Cultural Studies Director Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar and PhD Public Health scholar Mr Atta-ur-Rehman. The research titled “Role of media in health-related awareness campaigns on the perception towards 2019 COVID-19.

Demonstrating the study, Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar said in a statement that the study used pre-post design among 384 respondents, the first response (t1) from participants was filled in the first week of February 2020 before any confirmed case reported in Pakistan while the second response (t2) after one month of the first case detection in Pakistan in March 2020.

Rubeena said that according to the findings of the result, a more frequent use of electronic media is associated with higher knowledge gains from t1 to t2.

Also, that the media health awareness campaigns were initiated right after the discovery of first case in Pakistan.

The exposure to media as well as the knowledge related to COVID-19, specifically related to its symptoms and to frequent hand washing as a preventive measure has increased with the course of time.

Prof. Zakar noted that medical readiness and community education were the most crucial tools for counteracting the pandemic.

The media had already played an important source for health education and promotion in societies for decades.

In conclusion Dr. Rubeena said that health-related communication campaigns at media were aimed at reviving the health behavior of the people by spreading awareness and promoting prevention.
