LG has added two models to its true wireless earphones line-up, and the LG Tone Free HBS-FN6 include a charger case with a sanitising UV light.
It uses LG’s UVnano technology, similar to the UV gadget baths that have, unsurprisingly, rapidly gained popularity in 2020.
UV light kills bacteria and can deactivate viruses. It’s a slower process than washing your hands, but seems a perfect pairing for the LG Tone Free HBS-FN6, which have to spend a couple of hours in the case regularly to recharge the battery.
The version without UV is the LG Tone Free HBS-FN4.
LG says the case will zap “99.9% of E.Col and S.Aureus 2” from the tips and the aperture mesh, the parts that get closest to your ear canal.
It seems more likely to protect you from ear infections than coronavirus, but this is a clever application of technology not normally seen in wireless earphones.
The LG Tone Free HBS-FN6 were announced in 2019 for the South Korean market, but are now coming to the US and Europe. Most Popular In: Consumer Tech

These earphones have IPX4 water resisatance and last up to six hours off a charge. The case’s battery will recharge them three times before needing to be plugged in.
They also have sound optimisation by Meridian Audio, a big name in high end hi-fi and designer of the lossless MQA format. Its Headphone Spatial Processing enhances the sound field, to emulate the soundstage of a pair of speakers.
