A big update for Rainbow Six Siege is going live this week, bringing a new feature that will smooth out unbalanced teams so you won’t have to suffer through a full match a teammate drops.
If someone drops and leaves your team in the lurch, you aren’t stuck in an imbalanced Ranked match anymore. Match Cancellation will be live in the Year 5 Season 2.1 (Y5S2.1) update.
As detailed in Ubisoft’s patch notes, match cancellation lets players vote to end the current Ranked match if team sizes are unbalanced due to some issue that other players couldn’t help–for example, players on one team disconnecting in the first round. During the prep phase, the incomplete team will get to vote and a majority opinion will cancel the match. When a match is canceled in this way, it won’t impact your rank.

Ubisoft does caution, though, that you’ll still get an abandon penalty for leaving an ongoing Ranked match, and the more you do it, the worse penalties will get. That will also apply if you leave in the middle of a Match Cancellation vote, so make sure you wait until the vote is complete and the game registers as canceled.
Other changes coming in the update include slight nerfs to Melusi, Ace, and Hibana, and a long series of bug fixes. Melusi is having the range of her penalty zone reduced, while Ace and Hibana’s explosives can no longer destroy fragile gadgets through reinforced walls. You can check out the full patch notes below.
Rainbow Six Siege released in 2015 and has undergone frequent content updates and other improvements over the years. That led GameSpot to take another look with a 2020 review, concluding that “Siege has not only become Ubisoft’s crown jewel of multiplayer action but also one of the best first-person shooters ever made.”
Rainbow Six Siege Y5S2.1 Patch Notes
Match Cancellation will go live with the Y5S2.1 update! We have tested it on the TS and as well as internally against a number of potential circumstances. However as it is a new feature, please let us know if you have any feedback or issues to report with Match Cancellation at r6fix.ubi.com.
Match Cancellation is a new feature that will allow players to cancel their current Ranked match under the condition that team sizes are unbalanced at the beginning of the match (eg: if players disconnect before the first round, or if a lobby is formed with less than 10 players) Rainbow Six Siege. The Match Cancellation vote option will become available for the incomplete team during the prep phase and a majority vote will cancel the match. A canceled match will show as canceled and have no impact on MMR.
Abandon penalties are still in place and players who abandon an ongoing Ranked Match are still subject to escalating abandon sanctions.
If a match cancellation vote is triggered, leaving before the validation of the Match Cancellation vote will also result in an abandon penalty.Rainbow Six Siege Players should remain in the game until the Match Cancellation vote is validated and the game has been canceled.
