U.S. House Voted Against Amendment Called For Military Ads Ban On Social Media

It’s almost like Democrats come up with the most outrageous policies and positions on purpose.

After going all-in on the “Defund the Police” movement, socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tried going after the U.S. military.

And her own colleagues rejected her push.

As noted by  The Verge, the Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives voted against an amendment from Ocasio-Cortez that called for military ads to be banned from targeting young people.

Ocasio-Cortez wanted to ban military ads that target young adults on websites because she claimed that young people should not be recruited to the military.

Ocasio-Cortez especially criticized ads on a platform called Twitch, which is used by mostly adult males, and some young people as well.

“Right now, currently, children on platforms such as Twitch are bombarded with banner ads linked to recruitment signup forms that can be submitted by children as young as 12 years old. These are not education outreach programs for the military,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

As a result, Ocasio-Cortez introduced an amendment to a bill that would have permanently banned U.S. military organizations from using funds to “maintain a presence on Twitch.com or any video game, e-sports, or live-streaming platform.”

Thankfully, the House rejected Ocasio-Cortez’s disgusting measure by a vote of 45 for and 105 against.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted her frustration at trying to win over her colleagues Thursday evening:

Ocasio-Cortez has been an outspoken supporter of the movement to defund police departments, which has gained traction amid protests and riots sparked by the death of George Floyd in police custody on Memorial Day.

Late last month, Ocasio-Cortez said the proposed $1 billion in cuts to the New York Police Department were “not enough.”

“Defunding police means defunding police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so the exact same police remain in schools,” the congresswoman said in a statement.

“It does not mean counting overtime cuts as cuts, even as NYPD ignores every attempt by City Council to curb overtime spending and overspends on overtime anyways,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.

“If these reports are accurate, then these proposed ‘cuts’ to the NYPD budget are a disingenuous illusion. This is not a victory. The fight to defund policing continues.”
