The Israeli satellite operator SpaceCom and Ignite Power, the Pan-African developer and financier of solar solutions, announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement on October 13, 2020. The two companies have agreed to collaborate to provide connectivity solutions for e-health in sub-Saharan Africa.
Under their deal, SpaceCom will provide broadband connectivity on its AMOS-17 satellite while Ignite Power will provide off-grid solar power solutions and sustainable diagnostic systems. Together, they will provide an efficient backbone infrastructure for the delivery of digital medical services to rural communities and areas.
Local populations and medical teams will have immediate access to medical specialists around the world, as well as data analysis in the cloud. With the support of medical experts from around the world, doctors and nurses in rural Africa will also have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of new medical treatments and procedures.
“Providing internet connectivity to rural areas in Africa is a major pillar in Spacecom’s strategy to close the digital gap,” said Dan Zajicek, CEO of SpaceCom.
