The British American Tobacco clarifies that Pakistan setup is being established ‘in parallel to the company’s business in Malaysia’,
The British American Tobacco (BAT) is all set to establish its ‘shared business services’ in Pakistan, but it won’t stop its operations in Malaysia as reported by some sections of media.
In a clarification issued on Wednesday, BAT termed media reports that BAT is shifting its business services from Malaysia to Pakistan as “factually incorrect”.
“It is clarified that the setup is being established in parallel to its business in Malaysia, which will serve Asia Pacific and the Middle East region,” the company stated. “This development will add Pakistan to the list of countries like Malaysia, Romania and Costa Rica, where BAT operates its service hubs to service 180 entities across the globe for finance, human resources, information technology and other functions.”
BAT’s investment in Pakistan will create thousands of jobs over the next five years and would also serve as a talent incubator, creating global careers prospects and generating $100 million annually in service exports initially, with potential to increase further in future, the statement read.
